“Health and Wellness Apps: Apps for Bettering Your Life”  by Kailey Plaza  10/20/21

Being a student is stressful. Add in being a teenager, and you’re sure to run into some adversities. Things like schoolwork and sports practices could result in added stress, and sometimes it’s difficult to come up with solutions. Whether you’re struggling with your mental health, having difficulties with school, having a hard time managing your time, or dealing with any other potential issues, there are ways to help. Those ways can come in many forms, and in this instance, they come in the form of apps.

Headspace is an app designed to help you with numerous needs. If you want to improve your sleep or improve your focus, Headspace can help with that. It offers activities such as guided meditations and focus sessions, completely customized to best suit your needs.

If you’re looking for a similar app, try out InnerHour. InnerHours' primary focus is your mental health. It helps to manage your anger and anxiety, to tackle stress, help with depression, and help you live an overall happier life. InnerHour does this by providing courses and activities based on your priorities. The app offers a free well-being guide along with recommended activities such as cycling, running, and deep breathing.

If you’re struggling with stress and time management, apps like Notion, Pomodoro, and Rabit are just some of the apps to check out. Notion is one of the most popular apps for managing your work. The app is highly customizable and can be used for multiple purposes. Notion helps prioritize the most important tasks, keep your information organized, and improve your management skills, all while keeping your information in one place.

Apps like Pomodoro and Study Bunny are simple timer apps, but they do much more than just counting down the time. By using Pomodoro or Study Bunny, you are able to personalize your studying routine, set daily goals, customize your colors, and motivate yourself.

If you’re looking for an app to solely focus on your habits, download Rabit. Rabit is an app designed to help keep you motivated and organized. The app itself contains certain activities and ideas, which include listening to a podcast, taking some time for yourself, meditating, reading, and much more.

Overall, apps like these are the perfect way to improve aspects of your life. With school having just started and many people trying to get back into a normal routine during a pandemic, things like mental health and management aren’t always the top priorities. However, by checking out some of these apps, you’re helping yourself and your well-being, making you the best person you can be.

"Staying Active and Healthy During Covid"  By: Shannon Fahey

During the course of the Covid lockdown this past year of school, everything was different and there were limited options of what we were allowed to do. Due to the fact that we couldn’t leave our homes or go into public places for a while, it was hard to find the motivation to stay active or have balanced meals daily. I decided to get student Alexa Mohajer’s point-of- view on this event.

In our interview, she stated that she also found difficulties in staying motivated to workout and eat healthier. Instead of becoming discouraged by the thought of being locked indoors, isolated from the world, Alexa decided to do some research and figure out ways around the lockdown. She claimed that she started to research healthy recipes to make and rode her bike more often. She also said that on days it rained, she would do yoga and listen to music as a way of moving around.

We all faced our adversities during Covid and had many difficulties finding different ways to stay physically and mentally healthy. Alexa Mohajer faced challenges through these hard times as well, but instead of letting doubt and the feeling of discouragement get the best of her, Alexa put the lockdown into good use and found many ways to stay healthy through eating nutritiously and staying physically active.
